Bulwell man makes threat to kill with knife in street - court told

Gary McGovern, 42, had moved into Hemlock Gardens five years ago and had become a ‘nuisance neighbour’ to such an extent several people wanted to leave, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

On 2nd January a neighbour heard a row from next door, said Gareth Gimson, prosecuting.

McGovern was then seen arguing with a man in the street before walking into his flat saying ‘I’m going to kill him.’

McGovern came back out carrying a knife, raised as if to stab, and chased the other man.

“As the other man ran McGovern threw the knife at him but missed,” said Mr Gimson.

The other man ran off and had not been seen since then.

McGovern stabbed his wheelie bin four times with the knife before walking back into his flat.

When armed police arrived he punched out towards two officers trying to arrest him but was eventually subdued.

McGovern admitted two counts of common assault and having a blade.

The court heard he had been subject to a community treatment order under the mental health act and had not been taking his medication.

Judge Gregory Dickinson sentenced him to two years probation supervision, with mental health treatment.
