As part of the scheme, new road signage will be installed to remind drivers that they are in a residential 20mph area but there will be no new road humps or speed cameras installed.

Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transportation, Coun Jane Urquhart, said: “20mph speed limits have already been introduced across a number of cities in the UK and have been shown to bring a number of benefits to local communities.

“Slower traffic speeds in Bulwell and the surrounding areas will make a real difference to the feel of the area, helping to make the streets a safer and friendlier place for pedestrians and cyclists. Through the Speed Watch initiative, local residents can actively get involved in supporting the scheme in their community.”

Following the introduction of a 20mph limit in Sherwood last year, parts of Bulwell, Basford, Cinderhill and surrounding neighbourhoods will form the second area of Nottingham to benefit from reduced speed limits. A roll-out of further 20mph limits is proposed to take place across the city over the next two years in areas including The Meadows, Wilford, Bestwood, the Bramcote Lane area of Wollaton, Lenton, Radford and Clifton.

A launch event at the Bulwell Riverside Centre on Saturday from 9am – 1pm, includes a question and answer session, free activities and games.
