Bulwell fun day draws big crowds

The Community Toy Library, Crabtree Primary, the family and community team from Nottingham City Council and the health authority all joined forces to put on the family-friendly event at the town’s Riverside Centre.

“It was something we decided to do quite last minute but we have been overwhelmed by the success of the event,” said Mark Paulson, manager of the family and community team manager.

“We all pooled our resources to provide this fun day with a variety of activities on offer which has proved very popular and demonstrates the need in the community for similar events.”

Families from birth to 15 were catered for at the event, which was held on Tuesday. There were arts and crafts, sports, music, storytelling and food on offer throughout the day supervised by volunteers and representatives of the various agencies.

“As well as having fun, the day also gave us the chance to talk to parents about their needs in the community ,” added Mark. “And it gave the agencies the opportunity to raise the awreness of various schemes available to the community and how to access them.”

It is estimated that around 500 people attended the fun day and based on the success of the event and its popularity, the team hope to plan further in the future.

Katy Pritchard, deputy head of Crabtree Primary and school volunteer Leoni Anson not only helped organise the event but were on hand to chat to parents too.

“We have had a fantastic turnout to our first event of this kind here in Bulwell,” added Mark. “It was wonderful to see so many local people engaging in the activities.

“We will definitely be looking at planning future similar events and pooling our resources again.”
