A song published by a Bulwell firm during World War One was sung by a choir from the town at a special event last Saturday.
The Riverside Community Choir included the song in an hour-long concert during a day of events at Nottingham Central Library to commemorate the Great War.
The song, ‘The Bravest, The Best’, was published by Nottingham Music Publishing Company, of Nansen Street, Bulwell.
It was dedicated to ‘our brave soldiers and sailors who have left home to fight for their country’ and it was claimed to have been ‘graciously accepted by His Majesty the King’.
The song was first sung by Miss Edna Bancroft. The tune was composed by S.H.Robinson and arranged by Ezra Read, while the lyrics were written by Ernest Braddock.
The 15 singers were conducted by Judith Fox, who said: “It was quite a thrill for us to sing something contemporaneous with World War One which has such a strong strong local link.”
