Bulwell arts festival plans move closer

Exciting plans are being developed for Bulwell’s first-ever Arts Festival.

The event will run between Saturday 5th July and Sunday 20th July, offering opportunities to get involved in a wide range of creative activities.

The Festival secretary is Bill Blackamore, who holds the same position with Bulwell Forest Action Group.

He says: “We think Bulwell is a great place to live and work in. The Arts Festival will be an ideal way to celebrate our community, history and landscape.”

The Festival’s artistic director, Rosemary Maclennan, says: “We are keen to hear from anyone who is interested in taking part.

“Maybe you have your own arts practice that you would like to show or you could steward an activity. Equally, if you run a local shop or have a venue we could use to exhibit work and hold performances or workshops, we are keen to speak to you.

“You don’t need to feel creative to get involved. There are a range of other opportunities for you to help make Bulwell Arts Festival a real success.”

The Festival will open at Bulwell Academy, with students displaying their own work, and on the final Saturday there will be ‘Fun On The Forest’. A music festival on Bulwell Market Place has been suggested as the finale.

Other ideas include a Roald Dahl weekend on Bulwell Forest Community Garden, a creative writing workshop and attractions on Bulwell Bogs recreation park.
