BRUSSELS: Flags up at Ashfield District Council following ISIS attacks

European flags will be flown at Ashfield council offices as a mark of respect to those killed in the terrorist attacks in Brussels this week.

The flags will be up at half-mast at the Ashfield District Council offices in Kirkby for the rest of this week.

Bombs killed at least 34 people and left about 200 more seriously injured in the Belgian capital yesterday (March 22).

The group calling itself Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Councillor Cheryl Butler, leader of Ashfield District Council, said the Tuesday’s events in Brussels were “shocking” and “horrific”.

She said: “We are deeply shocked by the terrorist attacks in Brussels and our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who died or were injured in the terrible events.

“Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones, the injured and those traumatised by what they saw on Tuesday morning.”
