Scott and Daniel Walker were spotted on CCTV taking Armani and DKNY perfumes, as well as a No 7 gift set, from Boots, on St Peter’s retail park, on March 8.

Both men are currently serving prisoners, explained their solicitor, Mary Dixon, who said they denied taking electrical items, valued at £591.

“They don’t steal things they can’t get rid of,” she said.

“They have been very honest. They say “We will certainly hold our hands up to what we have taken.”

“They both have long-standing drug problems.

“Before they went to prison in March, they were on a binge of shoplifting. Their use of drugs was horrifying.

“If they hadn’t gone to prison one or both of them would have died.

“Police knew they were on this rampage.”

She said the duo had been charged with several thefts after they were sentenced, but they should have been charged and sentenced “globally.”

“”When they come close to the end of their sentences these charges keep pushing their release date back further and further,” she said.

The court heard Scott is due for release in September, and any further extension to his sentence meant he would lose his council house, which is specially adapted for his health needs.

Daniel is due to appear in crown court next month.

Scott Walker, 45, currently at HMP Ranby, admitted the thefts via video-link, while Daniel, 42, currently at HMP Nottingham, admitted them in person, at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Friday.

They were both given 60 days to run at the same time as their current sentences, and were ordered to pay £115 compensation to the store.
