Two brothers have appeared in court charged with animal cruelty after a dog was found dead.

Police discovered the body of the animal at a property in Shuttlewood on November 10 last year.

Two men, Thomas Hill and James Hill, were arrested.

At Chesterfield magistrates’ court this morning, Thomas Hill, 20, of Houfton Road, Bolsover, pleaded not guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, arson and criminal damage.

James Hill, 21, of Hillcrest Close, Bolsover, pleaded not guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and arson. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

The brothers will stand trial at Chestefield magistrates’ court on April 27.

They were granted conditional bail.
