BREAKING: Police divers searching lake for missing Mansfield woman

A team of police divers have spent the morning combing the bottom of a lake in search of missing woman Melanie Wilson.

The team began their search at around 9am at Sutton Lawn for the 22-year-old who has not been seen since last week.

The six-strong underwater unit were seen slowly walking around the fishing lake in unison while checking under overhanging trees and hedges when they reached the edge.

It is understood the police will move onto King’s Mill Reservoir this afternoon if nothing is found.

Robert Dunn, head bailiff for Ashfield Angling Association was lakeside during the search.

He said: “They got here about 9am and have just been going around the site.

“It doesn’t look like they’ve found anything yet.

“It’s not the first time this has happened, about eight years ago we had a little girl went missing and we had the divers here and a police helicopter.

“It must cost a bob or two but it’s something they have to do to eliminate it from their search.”

Missing Melanie was last seen in the Mansfield area at about 11.20pm on Wednesday, October 19 and police are becoming increasingly concerned for her safety.

The police even issued a fresh photo of her yesterday to help jog people’s memories.

She is white, about 5ft 6ins tall, has blonde hair and is of a slim build.

DI Rebecca Hodgman said: “It’s now been a week since Melanie went missing and we haven’t had any credible sightings of her.

“We continue our search for her and ask that anyone who has seen her to get in touch.

“Melanie hasn’t got her mobile phone with her, which is concerning for someone who is so active on social media, and we don’t think she has taken any provisions with her.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 858 of October 21 2016.
