Brave brothers cycle the length of the country for charity

Peter Melvin, 69 and John Melvin, 74, set off from Lands end, Cornwall, at 5 o’clock on Wednesday morning.

The brothers, who live in Kirkby-in -Ashfield and Newton, Tibshelf, and are tackling the journey unsupported, having financed the trip themselves.

They aim to cycle 50 to 60 miles a day, and complete the journey within two weeks.

They are cycling to raise money for MS society UK, as Peter’s wife Jean suffers from MS.

The brothers are also fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK, to encourage men to have their prostate checked.

Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life.

Peter said on their Justgiving page: “We would like to thank all our friends,friends of friends of friends whose friends have donated to these two worthy charities, no matter how big or small a donation it all matters and adds up. And we thank you from the bottom of our saddle seats. Carry on the good work”

Their goal is to raise £10,000, and they have already raised £1,107 so far.

Peter’s wife Jean says the pair are “fit and fine” and are exited to tackle the gruelling challenge.

She added: “They are quite fit and enthusiastic.”
