The pavilion, in the park on Epsom Street, has been an ice cream stand and a park keeper’s cabin amongst other things. But now Kings Clipstone Brewery has unveiled plans for its use as a micropub. In its planning application to the Mansfield District Council, the local planning authority, it said: “For as long as I can remember, some 60 years, the pavilion has been a focal point of the Racecourse,“With some planning and forethought this building could be brought back into use to become once again become a focus point, not just for the Racecourse, but for the surrounding area.“We hope to provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere for humans and their pets to enjoy.“The venue is very dear to us and we feel we would introduce a new great addition with a micropub to the site.”The micropub would also feature an upstairs room for meetings and game nights. The applications also details discussions of a minibus service, for the ageing or disabled population who do not drive. David Maguire, brewery co-owner said; “The Pavilion is council-owned so gaining permission is a long process. “We were hoping to open at the end of this year, but it’s looking more likely that it will be at the start of next year now.” David and Daryl Maguire set up their own microbrewery in Kings Clipstone in 2013.The application states the micropub would encourage patrons to put down technology, and “shun electronic forms of entertainment”.The application says: “These establishments, while having the traditional pub as its foundation, also need to bring old and new customers together and get away from the stereotypical image of ‘lager louts’ drinking multinational carbonated filtered and tasteless ale.”It also states that by making use of the pavilion, it would be less of a vandalism target, and by working in collaberation with the park wardens, the presence of a micropub could help reduce damage to the area.
