Boost for Notts rescue team

The entirely voluntary team have spent much of the past two years assisting police and other groups in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.

But in the next two to three months, they hope to pass the necessary tests to become fully operational.

The money will allow for more people to be trained, as well as the purchase of radio communication equipment, a computer-based search control system with

mapping, water bank search equipment, flood rescue kits, mountain bikes for path searches and training equipment for first aid.

“Getting this grant has been absolutely amazing for us,” said chairman Dunk McCondach. “It widens the area where we will be able to search including lakes, rivers and canals.

“At the moment we can only assist, but we hope to be in a position to run the rescues ourselves in the near future.”

The 32-strong team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
