Bonfire night success

RAINWORTH parish councillor Mark Buttery has praised the public spirit of villagers after they rallied round to help put on a successful fireworks event - just days after vandals torched the original bonfire.

The thugs struck at the Kirklington Road site in the early hours of Thursday - leaving organisers Rainworth Miners’ Welfare with a race against time to make sure the event went ahead.

But with the help of farmer Tom King - who cleared the site - and folk in the village, they were able to put on the annual spectacular as planned.

Said Coun Buttery: “I would like to say a big thank you to all the community. To say 4,000 people were there it was a remarkable turnaround.”
