Bolsover: Incidents prompt cold call warning

The Bolsover Community Safety Partnership is warning householders across the district to be aware of cold callers after reports of two recent incidents in as many weeks.

Both happened in and around the Shirebrook area and in both cases targeted the elderly.

In one case a man tried to sell a handheld device to a tenant for £950 and in the other it was claimed 16 solar panels could be installed as a free government scheme when they instead cost close to £10,000.

Cold calling is not illegal, but there have been examples where such calls have resulted in distraction burglaries.

The advice is to keep front and back doors locked, don’t answer the door if you’re not expecting anybody, put your chain on if you do answer and check callers’ details in full.
