Bolsover District Council is highly commended at Local Government Awards

Bolsover District Council has been ‘Highly Commended’ by the Local Government Chronicle at its annual Local Government Awards.

The Council were a finalist in the Economic Development category and impressed the judges so much they received the accolade for the business support they provide to local businesses and their innovative approach to attracting new business to the District.

Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Tomlinson said, “This is the first time we have entered these awards and to be highly commended, we feel is a great achievement. We have done a great deal of work over the past couple of years in terms of regeneration, helping to support local businesses and attracting big business to the area and it is great to receive recognition like this.”

The Council, who were up against some of the biggest authorities and cities in the UK including Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham and Essex, were finally beaten by Wirral Council for their Wirral Investment Strategy.

In the past year alone Bolsover District Council has secured some major developments and big names such as the Co-op Distribution Centre, Tesco, and The Tangent and both at Brook Park Shirebrook, which will create more than 1,000 jobs.
