Bolsover councillor’s concerns over suspicious fires

A Bolsover district councillor has voiced fears that property in the town is being targeted by arsonists.

The concern comes after a house fire at a derelict building on Market Close this morning (Friday) at about 7am.

Derbyshire Police spokesman said Derbyshire Fire and Rescue had referred the incident as they believed it was deliberate.

It comes not long after a massive blaze treated as suspicious at the White Swan public house, Portland Road, at around 4.20pm on 28th September.

Coun Brian Murray Ward, community safety cabinet member at Bolsover District Council, said: “I have had continuing concerns that we have someone within our midst who seems to delight in setting fires.”

This morning’s fire was put out after 20 minutes and no-one was injured.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said an investigation was under way and anyone with information should phone 101
