Bogus social worker tried to abduct 10 month old boy in Sutton
A Sutton couple are warning parents to be on their guard after they say a man posing as a social worker tried to take their 10 month old son away.
Mum of two Sharnice Dwyer said she was shocked and angry when the man turned up at her home on Garden Lane at 10am yesterday (Saturday June 16).
She said: “I heard my daughter Skyla laughing in the living room a bit more than usual.
“When I went to go and check on her there was a man with his face pressed against the window staring in.
“I was shocked and asked him what he thought he was doing. He went to the door and said he had been sent from social services to collect my poorly son.
“He showed me his phone with my name on it and details, but he had no identification whatsoever.
“My son Lee is not even poorly. He was in a different room and just my 18 month old daughter was there.
“I told him there was no way I would be handing over my son and shut the door in his face. After that he just rushed off..
“We called the police and they sent a patrol out straight away but they are yet to find him.”
She said she and her partner Lee Hart had contacted social services to check who told them they had not sent anyone out.
“I was never going to hand over my kids but what if it had been someone elderly or vulnerable who was taken in by him?”
The man is described as black, with curly hair wearing a black hoody.
Mr Hart said: “This morning could have gone horribly wrong to the point my son could have been taken away - this is no joke, they need to find this guy.”
It is understood the man was captured on CCTV at a nearby shop.
