Body found at Warsop house

A man has been found dead at a house in Warsop following an incident on Monday night (20th May).

Police were called to a house in Sherwood Street at around 10.50pm after concern was raised for the safety of the occupant.

On arrival, officers found the property smelled strongly of gas.

As a precaution, up to 16 people from eight neighbouring homes were evacuated and the road closed until the area could be deemed safe by the Fire Service and Transco.

Many went to stay with relatives while others were provided with temporary shelter at the Miners’ Welfare Social Club in Longden Terrace.

Other residents in the area were asked to keep their windows and doors closed while the gas dissipated.

A subsequent search of the house resulted in the discovery of a 45-year-old man’s body.

A police investigation, on behalf of the Coroner, is underway into the circumstances surrounding the death, but at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious.

Residents were permitted to return to their homes yesterday (21st May).

A police officer was taken to King’s Mill Hospital with minor injuries.
