Body found at New Houghton / Pleasley confirmed as missing Mansfield woman Janet Bacon

THE remains of a body found by police in woodland near Pleasley and New Houghton have been identified as missing Mansfield woman Janet Bacon, who had not been seen for seven months, police revealed on Wednesday morning.

Janet Bacon (74) was reported missing from her home in Abbot Road by her family on 15th September last year.

Mrs Bacon’s remains were found by officers during a fingertip search of an area of rough ground in New Houghton on Sunday, 1st April.

Police began searching the area following the discovery of a human skull by a man walking his dog the previous day.

Forensic and DNA tests have confirmed the identity of the body as Mrs Bacon.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are preparing a file for the coroner.
