B&M given green light open new store

The company will convert the old Mansfield B&Q premises off Baums Lane, which closed in the summer.

The company already has a store on Stockwell Gate and there are five others within a 10-mile radius.

They applied to sell food, drink, non-fashion clothing and toys at the new store, which was unanimously passed by the 12 planning committee members on Mansfield District Council during their recent monthly meeting.

This was despite twoobjections from the public saying good-quality trading outlets, decent hotels and eating establishments were required, rather than another low-budget store.

As part of the agreement B&M,has said that it would keep its shop on Stockwell Gate open for five years, amid fears it would close if given the green light for the new store further out of the town centre.

The council’s planning officer said: “At present the site is vacant and the proposal would allow the site to be brought back into use with the creation of jobs which would be beneficial to the area.

“The site is located in an accessible location on one of the main routes into the town.”

B&Q shut down in June this year after trading at the site for 26 years.
