Bilsthorpe man avoids jail for criminal damage

A Bilsthorpe man has avoided jail after admitting smashing a glass panel in his ex-partner’s house.

Mansfield magistrates were told how Ryan Cooper (26), of Crompton Road, was seen by his estranged partner outside her house on the night of 1st March.

Robert Carr, prosecuting, said the woman was with a friend and Cooper’s two children were upstairs in bed at the time.

He added: “They heard something being dragged around the back of the house and then the window was smashed. They were in the kitchen at the time.

“The whole incident lasted about ten minutes.”

Mr Carr said the woman had been unable to believe what Cooper had done while his children were upstairs in bed.

The court was told how Cooper moved out in June last year after having been in a relationship with his victim for five years.

Amy Godson, defending, said: “He had too much to drink and emotions had been running high and kicked the door so much as to cause this damage.

“He had regular contact with his two young children - unfortunately this contact stopped in mid-February.

“Mr Booth said he felt there was no reason for this.”

Miss Godson said Booth know realised that while in drink was not the right time to pay a visit.

Booth was given a four-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months with supervision a thinking skills programme. He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation.

A magistrate added: “You have put yourself in a very difficult position with this behaviour. The incident was of a domestic nature.”
