THE BIG SWITCH-ON: Mansfield all set to join the Christmas countdown with festive lights switch-on

Mansfield wil be lit up later today (Sunday) when the town’s Christmas lights are switched on in what is set be a real festive cracker.

The annual Big Switch-On has become a huge favourite with locals since it moved to a Sunday two years ago.

And today promises to be another day to remember with a full programme of events taking place culminating in the much-anticipated switch-on shortly before 5pm.

Here’s the full timetable of events today:

10am-5pm

Christmas market, West Gate

10.30am-1.30pm

B Club children’s prince and princess workshop, Four Seasons Shopping Centre

noon-1.40pm

Christmas movie - Frozen, Market Place

Noon-1pm

Christmas concert featuring a live brass band, Queen Street

2-3pm

Christmas parade, West Gate - from St John Street to the Buttercross (area at the side of the Four Seasons Shopping Centre)

Folk can enjoy a magical parade featuring a whole host of special guests! Santa and the Four Seasons’ Princess will arrive by horse and carriage, followed by stars from the Palace Theatre’s Sleeping Beauty pantomime, Miss Mansfield, Buzz the mascot, stilt walkers and a singing Christmas tree. All accompanied by a fantastic pipe band. Mike the Knight will also be making a special appearance.

After the parade - 6pm

Santa’s grotto, Four Seasons Shopping Centre

Youngsters can visit Santa in his magical Sleeping Beauty-themed wonderland to tell him what they want this Christmas and receive an early present to put under tree.

3.30-5pm

The Big Switch On stage show, Market Place

Featuring live music from Ben Haynes and The Fabulous Tabbykatz, appearances at intervals from Mike the Knight, stars of the Sleeping Beauty pantomime and Santa himself. The event finishes in festive style with the switching on of the lights, snow and fireworks.

The Big Switch On event is organised by Mansfield District Council and the Four Seasons Centre with support from Mansfield 103.2, Mansfield BID, 6 five 2s taxis and Fresh Start Recruitment.
