The scheme, now in its third year, sees Ashfield District Council encouraging residents across Sutton, Kirkby, Hucknall and the rural areas to dispose of their unwanted bulky and household waste – free of charge.

Last year's spring clean saw residents dispose of more than 266 tonnes of waste collected as 3,245 properties took advantage of the free kerb-side bulky waste collections.

And now the council wants to see a “bigger and better” spring clean than the previous two years – encouraging residents to help in keeping Ashfield a “clean and pleasant place to live”.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, leader of Ashfield District Council, said: “Following the success of the last two years, we are proud to announce an even bigger and better Spring Clean this year.

“We’ve made it easier for all residents to get involved – offering a simple, personalised service. You simply need to bag your extra waste in bin bags and leave it out with your regular bin collection during the week the Spring Clean is in your area.

“We’ll also be using the campaign as an opportunity to target fly tipping and illegal waste carriers in the district. We’re sending out the message that fly tipping will not be tolerated.

“We will do everything we can to assist residents with their waste but come down like a ton of bricks on those who fly-tip and dump rubbish.

“We are committed to tackling issues and informing residents on how they can help Ashfield stay a clean and pleasant place to live.

“We want the residents of Ashfield to take pride in their communities and local community groups, businesses and schools are being encouraged to organise litter picks in parks, open spaces and litter hot spots.”

The spring clean will return in Sutton on the week commencing February 10, with residents encouraged to dispose of their waste items alongside their regular bin collections.
