The aim is to get as many people as possible to have lunch with their neighbours every year on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community spirit, friendship and fun. Last year, around 3.65 million people across the UK took part in events held in streets, gardens, schools and community spaces.

A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together to a full blown street party.

Coun Andrew Tristram, Portfolio Holder for Corporate Issues, said: “This is a great opportunity for neighbours to get to know one another and promote community spirit. You don’t have to organise a big event and you can keep things simple by asking people to bring a picnic, or a dish to share. The Big Lunch is an excellent way of helping neighbourhoods to become happier, closer and safer communities.”
