BID festive event is hailed a success

A Christmas event organised by Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) has been hailed as a success.

The BID organised the Christmas market that took place in the Market Place on 12th December with stalls selling a range of festive goodies.

Figures show that footfall, the number of people in an area, was up by 72.7 per cent on the Thursday the week before and 67.6 per cent on the same Thursday in 2012.

BID Manager Sarah Nelson said: “Events like this one are well supported by businesses, and it was good to note that more than 4,700 people attended the market.

“Whenever an event like this is staged, we have to make sure that businesses, and the community benefit, so it was great to see the footfall figures showing how we have made a difference.”

Amanda Munt, a fundraiser for Fountaindale School, said that they had held a stall on the market.

She said: “The boys did amazing. They sold 45 calendars at £10 each so really raised a lot to put to the total and us ladies and children had a great time shopping and all the other fun things Mansfield town and the market had to offer; it was a great night.”

Elaine McGreade, who runs Hops In a Bottle in Mansfield also had a stall at the Christmas event.

She said: “It was a cracking evening in at the BID Christmas Market and thanks to everyone who came out in the rain - good to see it didn’t dampen spirits too much.”

And she added: “We are always happy to be part of the events the BID puts on. They’ve earned the levy once again as far as I’m concerned”
