Best-in-county award for Mansfield's After Dark nightclub

After Dark on Leeming Street was not only named the best-run in Mansfield but also landed the overall countywide accolade in the Nottinghamshire Best Bar None Awards.

“Thankyou to everyone!” was the message to the club’s Facebook followers from general manager Cerie McClure after she and her assistant, Megan Rose, had received the award from the county’s police and crime commissioner, Paddy Tipping.

Former MP Mr Tipping funds the awards scheme, which encourages licensees to continually improve their standards of operation and attempts to reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder.

Assessments ask pubs and bars across the county to show how they offer a safe environment and provide their customers with the best possible experience. A panel of licensing experts then reviews the assessments.

After Dark, which opens every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, is one of Mansfield’s premier late-night bars. The winner of the Ashfield award was The Pilgrim Oak pub in Hucknall.

THE After Dark club is a shining example of a safe and enjoyable place to have a night out, says police and crime commissioner Paddy Tipping, who funds the Nottinghamshire Best Bar None scheme.

Mr Tipping said: “The commitment that venues such as After Dark show deserves to be recognised and will, hopefully, be rewarded through increased custom from people wanting to visit.

“I want people to have a great night out in safety. Licensed venues can play a key role in this by providing a safe environment where people can enjoy themselves and by also ensuring a thriving local economy.”
