Bernie Clifton back for Palace panto

Bernie Clifton will be back for another Christmas at The Palace Theatre, Newark as he takes on the role of Smee in The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan.

He joins the pirates on board The Jolly Roger as side-kick to the cruel and calculating Captain Hook.

“We’re so happy that the Palace has become like a second home to Bernie and that he’s coming back for a fourth consecutive year this December,” said theatre manager Carys Coulton-Jones.

The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan is being produced by Paul Holman Associates, and Paul Holman said: “This year we will literally be taking audiences to new heights with the amazing special effects used in the production. As well as flying, there are a few surprises for audiences which will keep the traditions of panto alive and add a 21st century twist!”

With a magical storyline based on the JM Barrie classic, The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan takes audiences on a flight from the rooftops of Victorian London to Never Land.

The tale of the boy who never grew up will see the Darling children join forces with Peter, Tinkerbell and the Lost Boys and introduce the essential pantomime dame, Dame Able Mabel.

Bernie Clifton said: “Having never really grown up myself, I like to think I have a lot in common with Peter Pan!

“However, the producers have told me I’m too expensive to insure to fly to Never Land so they’ve cast me as a seafaring rascal and I’m ready to sail the high seas as Smee!”
