Bereaved man caught drink driving

An Ollerton man was caught nearly three times over the drink-drive limit when police breathalysed him after his car was seen swerving ‘violently’ towards the pavement.

Emma Goodall, defending, said Jonathan Briggs (33), of Petersmith Drive, had suffered family bereavements and consumed numerous drinks while discussing his troubles at a friend’s home before attempting to drive home.

Said Ms Goodall: “He is the father of three children and a carer for his wife.

“There are also concerns about the family being able to support a financial penalty.”

Briggs admitted the offence and was given a community order, banned from driving for 24 months, made to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and £85 court costs.
