Bentinck club to host its first beer and cider festival

Local businesses in Hucknall have clubbed together to help organise a beer and cider event that starts today.

The three-day event, the first of its kind at the Bentinck Club on Portland Road, will feature up to 20 real ales from local microbreweries and cider provided by Nottinghamshire’s only cider maker, Ray Blockley of Torkard Cider, based in Hucknall.

The Lincoln Green Brewing Company, located on the Wigwam Lane, Enterprise Business Park and The Beer Shack micro-pub, in Derbyshire Lane have provided ales.

Darrell Horspool of the Bentinck Club said: “We’re excited to be hosting our first ever beer festival and have been thrilled with the support we’ve received from local businesses.

“We hope that the beer festival will become an annual feature in the club’s calendar.”

H Francis & Son, bakers based on Watnall Road and Allen Street have supplied cobs for the event while Andy Cunnington butchers of Annesley Road is providing their steak and ale pies, which contain beer from Lincoln Green.

Andrew Ludlow, secretary of the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, who also lives in Hucknall said: “With a microbrewery, cider maker and micro-pub, Hucknall is fast becoming a place to visit for real ale fans. We hope that the Bentinck Club’s beer festival is a huge success.”

The festival starts today, and members and non-members alike are welcome.
