Bell ringing at Nottinghamshire County Show

Visitors to the Nottinghamshire County Show over the week end of 10th-11th May will hear the unmistakable sound of bells ringing despite the absence of a church nearby.

The Southwell & Nottingham Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers information stand, staffed by experienced ringers, promoting bells and bell ringing will have a mini-ring, the Willoughby Campanile, erected close to it.

It is one of a few fully portable campaniles in the world demonstrating English style full circle ringing.

With six fully working bells controlled by rope and wheel, together with their fixtures and fittings, visitors will be able to see just how bell ringing is done.

Many people will have heard bells ringing from church towers but Show visitors will be able to see all this in action.

When not out on tour the Willoughby Campanile resides at the John Taylor Bellfoundry in Loughborough.
