Bedstead plans limit extension

Residents and business-owners objecting to the plans by the Co-op to build a store on the site of the Flying Bedstead have complained about an error in the planning notices.

The date given on the notices erected around the Watnall Road site, was written as 1st January 2013 by Ashfield District Council instead of 2014, which has sparked outrage by objectors.

“It’s just not good enough,” said Richard Johnson of Peppers Convenience Store. “When I complained to the council, the guy found the date issue funny, whereas if I had submitted something incorrectly dated I’m sure I would have had a different response.”

The date for objections to be received by the council has since been extended to 4th February 2014 after their mistake was recognised.

An objection to the scheme has also been made by Hucknall Central Tenants and Residents Association.

“We have objected because of the residential impact it will have, the health and safety concerns caused by traffic and parking and the commercial concerns,” said group chairman, Ken Cotham.

“Residents are also worried about the threat of increased crime levels because the Portland Road Co-op has been targeted by robbers, shoplifters and gangs of youths hanging around.

“Housing would be better.”
