An appeal for donated food to help keep Mansfield’s Beacon Project running has seen more than 1,500 items donated.
MP Alan Meale said: “My office have received a great many items of food from the local community, The Beacon provides an excellent service and I am delighted to be involved.”
Tins, packets and toiletries will be given out to those in need.
To add to this, the MP is supporting an ongoing project to allow the homeless access a meal on a Sunday.
Community Volunteer John Coxhead, along with Lynne Cooper from the Beacon Project, have been successful in raising the much-needed funds to pay for the Sunday meal throughout the colder months of the year.
John said: “For many years we have provided a meal on Sunday with the support of our MP, councillors, businesses and residents throughout the District.
“This is so heart warming to know we have this kind of support, who shows their care to the most vulnerable in our society because without them none of this would be possible.
“The vulnerable people who use the Beacon are overjoyed with all the donations and certainly the pies they receive each Friday from Wetton’s Butchers in Warsop, so a big than you to you all.
