Ivan Kircenko was seen testing the handles of a car on Central Avenue, on June 23, and was challenged by a resident.

Kircenko shouted: “Come on I’ll kill you!” said prosecutor Donna Fawcett.

“The resident felt threatened and intimidated and moved towards Mr Kircenko to stop him from damaging his car and to push him away,” she said.

“The defendant began to fight him and they ended up rolling around on the floor.”

He threw a 12ft long piece of wood in the resident’s direction, and then police arrived.

He told officers he had been drinking at a barbeque but couldn’t remember anything else.

Morgan Hogarth, mitigating, said: “He had injuries to his head, hand and arms and didn’t know how he got them.”

He said the defendant is originally from the Ukraine, lives with his girlfriend and works full time.

He said Kircenko described his behaviour as “out of character”.

Kircenko, 27, of Victoria Street, Mansfield, admitted using threatening words to cause the fear of violence, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court.

The case was adjourned until July 18 for a pre-sentence report, because the Russian-Ukrainian interpreter had limited time on Friday.
