Banned Mansfield taxi driver who wanted oral sex for payment loses licence appeal

Mr Nazmul Hassan, 33, has also been found guilty of watching moving images on his mobile phone, which caused him to drive in an erratic manner.

He had brought the appeal following revocation of his driver’s licence by Mansfield District Council in August last year.

Two female passengers gave evidence at court that the driver had made an inappropriate request of a sexual nature to them after a night out.

Further allegations were received from two witnesses about the same driver viewing moving pictures on his mobile phone whilst driving erratically.

Mansfield District Council revoked the driver’s licence in August 2017.

The decision was appealed and District Judge Spruce, who heard the appeal on on January 22, found the witnesses’ evidence to be honest, credible and reliable.

Consequently, the appeal was dismissed.

The judge upheld the Council’s decision finding that the allegations made were, separately, of a serious nature and each could justify a revocation.

He also found that the council, as a licensing authority, were not wrong to revoke licence. Mr Hassan was ordered to pay the council £2,800 in legal costs for bringing the case to appeal.

Jacqueline Collins, Mansfield District Council’s director of Governance and Monitoring Officer, said: “The safety of the public is a paramount consideration for a licensing authority and we will not allow this to be compromised.

“Mansfield District Council requires the highest standards for all drivers and operators and will not hesitate to take action against those failing to meet those standards.

“I would also like to thank those members of the public who took the time and trouble to report their concerns to the council and to give evidence at court. Without their assistance Mr Hassan would still be operating as a taxi driver.”
