Banned driver jailed after officers recognised him as he drove through Kirkby

A man who drove a vehicle while disqualified in Kirkby has been sentenced to 22 weeks in prison.

Jamie Richards, of Gladstone Street in Kirkby, was arrested and charged in October 2017 with two counts of driving whilst disqualified after officers saw him driving a van on two separate occasions.

The 34-year-old was also charged with possession of MDMA after officers found a quantity of drugs on him in custody.

He originally denied the offences but changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday, January 16 at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

As well as the prison sentence, he has also been disqualified from driving for three years.

Police Sergeant Carl Holland said: “Our officers recognised Richards and knew that he shouldn’t be driving.

“We are pleased with this sentence as it shows that we do our utmost to bring offenders in the area to justice and hold them to account for any wrong doing.”
