Authority in the running for top landlord award

Ashfield District Council has been shortlisted in the national Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes awards.

If it wins, it will be named landlord of the year.

The award recognises organisations that go the extra mile to encourage energy efficiency, through helping tenants and residents reduce energy bills, trying to reduce carbon emissions and using energy efficient techniques in housing stock.

Paul Parkinson, council director of housing and assets, said: “At a time of rising utility costs and other household essentials, being shortlisted for this national award shows the commitment of Ashfield council has to improving energy efficiency, not just for our housing stock but for all residents of the district.”

Mr Parkinson also said the authority works closely with householders,
 providing advice on how to tackle fuel poverty and ensure there is affordable heating.

Working in partnership with J Tomlinson, a building company which deals with refurbishment and construction, the council has carried out energy improvements to nearly 2,000 homes in Ashfield, including installing solar panels, central heating replacement and external wall insulation.

“Ashfield cares deeply for its residents and the wider community.

“This is demonstrated in its unwavering passion for improving energy efficiency measures across the district.”
