Ben Swain, Kai Marshall and Rich Crump shared their new song - which is styled on ‘Only You’ by the Flying Pickets - onto their Facebook page before the video was shared “hundreds of times”.

The idea for the song ‘3 Lions Roar’ started as a joke between friends Ben and Kai, who thought up the first verse before it spiralled into a whole song and included edited video a band name, ‘St Georgie Lookin’ Flag’.

Ben said: “This is one of those snowball events that took a life of its own, England were playing Columbia on the Tuesday night I started posting ideas on a Facebook post.

“Kai wrote the first verse and we agreed that I would write the second - in his words, ‘it’s over to you’.

“I said ‘I’ll get back to you’ as was in the pub watching the match, and when I got home I put the chorus and another verse together and got back to Kai on Facebook.

“Rich then added a third verse, before we all added a couple more, and then we posted the lyrics onto Facebook as a joke.

The trio then decided to record the video, with the help of family and friends including Ben’s daughter Jasmine who had learned the Ukelele and Kai’s wife Ruth who videoed the performance.

All three men included their family members in the video, stressing that it was all “for a laugh” as they progressed with the song.

Ben added: “Most of the scenes were only videoed once and only some giggling stopped them all being done on first attempt.

“Kais wife Ruth videoed each scene on her phone with all the three families there throwing in ideas and some also made cameo’s

“We created and performed all the scenes in less than 2 hours, having such a good time doing it.

“We all agreed if nothing else happens what a laugh we have had this week, especially on the Sunday night.”

After sharing the video on Facebook, the three Ashfield men received more than 1,000 likes on their new ‘St Georgie Lookin’ Flag’ Facebook group and have seen hundreds of shares on Facebook and Twitter.

The song is in honour of the England football team, who have reached the World Cup semi-final for the first time in 28 years.
