BUDDING presenters are being given their first taste of live broadcasting at a community radio station in Ashfield.

Takeover Radio 106.9 has been broadcasting from Sutton Centre since last year when Chad went behind the scenes to see the team in action.

Now the station is going from strength to strength by offering more live shows.

From its Sutton Centre studio, the station now broadcasts throughout the day, with around nine hours of live coverage every day. And bosses are hoping to increase this to throughout the weekend once more young people have been trained.

Station manager Gareth Hussey this week described how Takeover Radio gives young people valuable training experience for their future careers.

He says: “It is the experience, the confidence and the interaction. It is really daunting at first - but it is a confidence thing.”

Takeover Radio was first set up in Leicester in 1996 when young people were allowed to broadcast their own material.

The show was so successful that Takeover Radio was set up and this station, along with the Sutton one, are the only two broadcasting nationally.

The new-look station was officially launched at Sutton’s Idlewells Centre on 21st February - and now boasts a number of new shows including The Takeover Breakfast Show hosted by Gareth along with Lou Scott.

And for sports fans, the station will be broadcasting live match commentary on Mansfield Town’s away fixtures as well as live reports of home games at Field Mill.

Now Takeover Radio is looking for young people between the ages of eight and 14-years-old to join the station and take part in a free 10-week training course before being given their own show.
