The weather may have been a little overcast but the rain held off and thousands of local folk enjoyed a day to remember at this year’s Ashfield Show, reports Catherine Allen.
Officials reported more than 15,000 residents passed through the gates at Sutton Lawn where the bumper crowd were treated to a host of displays and activities, along with some top class live entertainment.
For many youngsters and their families the annual attraction at Sutton Lawn, organised by Ashfield District Council, is the highlight of the school holidays - and this year’s event proved to be as popular as ever.
Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed crafts, a petting zoo, sheep dog displays, dancing, live music, a fun fair and much more. Representatives from charities and businesses were also at the show.
For music fans there was a host of popular acts including Kirkby stars Xpose, The Greatest Take That Tribute, Glee Tribute and headline act Stacey Solomon, who wowed the crowds with her performance.
Michael James, from Sutton, was visiting the show with his four grandchildren and said: “The little one likes the little rides and the bigger ones have been on the dodgems, the waltzers - anything that goes fast.
“At least this year it is dry - last time I came it chucked it down.”
Ashfield MP Gloria de Piero was also out enjoying the day and said: “Well done to the council for putting on a great show. There’s a great turn out from the community. It’s a real community event and it’s brilliant to be here just as a punter.”
