ASHFIELD: Sherwood Forest Hospitals welcome new member to team

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has announced the appointment of Mr Arun Lakshmanan as Consultant Ophthalmologist.

Mr Lakshmanan joins the team providing ophthalmology services to both King’s Mill and Newark Hospitals.

Dr Andy Haynes, Interim Executive Medical Director, said: “We are delighted Mr Lakshmanan has joined the Trust to support the high quality eye care we already provide for our ophthalmology patients. He is a valued addition to our team.”

Prior to joining the Trust Mr Lakshmanan was working at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust as locum consultant. He has a fellowship in cataract surgery from Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Ophthalmology involves the care of eye conditions in patients of all ages from premature babies right through to the elderly. The wide range of conditions treated in ophthalmology can include trauma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, congenital and genetic eye problems.

An ophthalmologist is a medically trained doctor who commonly acts as both a physician and a surgeon. They examine, diagnose and treat diseases and injuries in and around the eye area.

Mr Lakshmanan has a specialist interest in the area of medical retina and glaucoma.
