Ashfield School celebrates 50th anniversary and buries time capsule for future generations

Ashfield School pupils celebrated its 50th anniversary by leaving a gift for future generations to unearth.

As part of Ashfield School’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, the new intake of Year 7 students recently gathered in the school’s famous quad to bury a time capsule laden with memorabilia of the school’s rich 50 years’ history.

Joining them was former pupil Geoff Chapman, who was a student at Ashfield on the very first day that it opened its doors.

Following the burial of the time capsule, students made their way to the school’s new seating area where they released helium balloons – each balloon was tagged with a tutor group’s contact details so that whoever finds them can let the school know where they end up. The tutor group whose balloon travels furthest will win a prize.

Many of the school’s anniversary celebrations over the last nine months have been about looking back at the impressive history of the school.

This event, however, was very much focused on the new generation of students who will lead their school into its next half century – a time that promises to be very exciting, not least because of the school’s extensive refurbishment programme and ever-increasing range of opportunities for students.
