Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero backs USDAW’s Freedom of Fear campaign

Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero visited staff at the Co-op store in Selston on Friday (16th November) to help highlight the shop-workers union, USDAW’s ‘Freedom of Fear’ campaign.

During the visit Gloria was given a guided tour of the site and met with Sharon Sheriff, operations manager, Belinda Adamiec, senior risk manager, and other members of staff at the store before giving her public backing to the national campaign, which is calling on shoppers to show respect to retail workers.

According to USDAW, every minute of every day a shop worker somewhere is assaulted, threatened or abused and the visit provided the MP with the perfect opportunity to meet staff and hear some of their stories.

Gloria said: “This is really well timed and although you might think the season of goodwill extends to shop workers, unfortunately, the reality is that the festive season is a time when incidents of violence and abuse against staff tends to increase.”
