Ashfield Homes unveils first refurbished property

The first Ashfield Homes property refurbished as part of a new multi-million pound improvement programme has been unveiled.

Nottingham-based building contractor J Tomlinson has been contracted to carry out £30 million worth of works to Ashfield District Council’s housing stock over the next five years.

The first home to undergo a much-needed makeover was a bungalow on Northfield Close in Sutton, which has benefitted from a new central heating system and associated remedial repairs including, electrical, brickwork, plastering and joinery work carried out.

Kathleen Hollis, the tenant of the property, said: “My home is definitely much warmer; I have a new thermostat and timer which I didn’t have before.

“The workmen left no mess and cleaned up after themselves, they were very good.”

J Tomlinson’s contract will see the company undertaking various improvement works to Ashfield Homes properties, including replacement kitchens, bathrooms, electrical upgrades and energy efficiency measures.

It will also be recruiting from the local area, with up to 40 new jobs being created over the next five years to deliver the contract.

Liz Buckingham, resident liaison officer, and Mark Grummett, site supervisor, have already been recruited, with other new starters including an apprentice bricklayer, joiners and plumbers.
