Ashfield District Council pledges its support to armed forces

The council has signed a community covenant, which promotes support and understanding between members of the armed forces and civilian community.

It also recognises the sacrifices made by service personnel and aims to boost activities which help them to get involved in community life.

The covenant was signed on Thursday evening by council chairman Ken Knight and Lt.Col David Dawber.

In addition, representatives from the serving military community, the Royal British Legion, Portland College, Help the Heroes and the Prince’s Trust attended.

Meanwhile, Coun Ken Knight also handed over a cheque for £7,000 to Brian Dykes from the Kirkby branch of the Royal British Legion.

The charity, best known for organising the annual Poppy Appeal, supports members of the armed forces.
