ASHFIELD: Council say no to more gypsy pitches

A motion for ten additional traveller pitches around the district has been turned down at a council meeting.

Despite only needing to find two additional pitches to the eight already supplied by Ashfield District Council this year, Robert Sears-Piccavey, coun for Underwood, said: “The eight sites granted in 2012 is not enough, we need a further 10 within the district before the Local Plan is finalised. They are using the fact we have no sites as an argument to get applications through. If we do not look at this seriously then we are opening doors for campments within our own areas.”

Councillors voted 19 against to eight for at the meeting held on 10th October.
