Artists urged to capture life in Derbyshire

Artists are being urged to get creative about local life and landscapes and enter Derbyshire County Council’s Open Art Competition.

The competition has been running for 32 years and is open to amateur and professional artists of all ages.

Entries should show why Derbyshire is special. The subjects can be landscapes, views of a town, local people, representations of local legends or still life. Artists are invited to use a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics, watercolours, drawings, collages, photographs, manipulated digital imagery or three-dimensional work.

Coun Ellie Wilcox, Derbyshire County Council deputy cabinet member for health and communities, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for local artists of all ages and abilities to celebrate their county and we are always delighted with the quality and range of entries we receive.

“For us it’s also a valuable opportunity to showcase what Derbyshire has to offer to the thousands of visitors and tourists who will see the exhibition this summer.”

Prizes totalling £2,350 – including a £750 first prize – are up for grabs along with the opportunity to display work at the county council’s Buxton Museum and Art Gallery which is running the competition.

Artists can submit up to two works which must be handed in to the museum in Terrace Road, Buxton between 10am and 4.30pm on Friday or Saturday 13th and 14th June.
