Art and music will collide next month when the first Southwell Music Festival and Southwell Artists Open Studios run simultaneously.
More than 60 classical musicians will be descending on the town for the August Bank Holiday for the inaugural event for a series of performances in Southwell Minster, The Archbishop’s Palace and other venues around the town.
Many of the performances will be free to watch.
And in keeping with the cultural theme, local group - Southwell Artists - are planing their sixth biennial open studios event across the same weekend.
Spokesman for the group Maggie Milner said: “We are delighted to be joining the Southwell Music Festival for the first of their annual events.
“The weekend promises to provide an exciting mix of diverse visual art and top quality classical music.
“Artists’ work will be displayed in houses or studios along an ‘easy to follow’ trail through Southwell.
“People can enjoy an interesting ramble full of discoveries and contrasts.
“Our aim is to make the visual arts more accessible to people of all ages, and to show a wide range of approaches and techniques including painting, photography and mixed media.
“You will be able to visit nine venues, see work and chat with fourteen artists who will also have work on sale.”
Further details will be included closer to the festival or log onto www.southwellartists.co.uk and www.southwellmusicfestival.com
