Army pay tribute to '˜exceptional soldier' killed in car collision tragedy

An Army regiment has paid tribute to a Mansfield Woodhouse soldier who was killed in a tragic road collision

Pvt Johnathan James Masters, 25 died following a collision with a car in Cuckney on Friday March 4.

Lieutenant Colonel Phil Prosser, Commanding Officer, 1 Close Support Battalion REME said: “Private Johnathan Masters was a big part of the Royal Logistic Corps Stores Troop attached to 1 Close Support Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers; he was very popular across the Battalion.

“He was employed as a Logistic Supply Specialist and completed an Operational tour of Afghanistan on Operation HERRICK 17 in 2012.

“He was a larger than life character who always managed to maintain Troop morale even at the lowest of points. There has been a tangible absence since he has passed.

“His technical ability, intelligence and sense of humour combined with his outgoing character meant he naturally stood out from his peers.

“ The Battalion has lost an exceptional soldier and he will be sorely missed by us all.”

Johnathan, known as Jay, was taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre after the incident, which happened on the Warsop side of the junction of Budby Road and the A60 at around 6.30pm on Friday March 4, where he later died.

Johnathan’s family paid tribute to him following the fatal incident saying: “We are devastated by the events of last Friday but are comforted by the knowledge that some of his donated organs have made a difference to other peopl

“We would also like to pass on their gratitude to all the emergency services and staff at the QMC that cared for Johnathan.”

A date has yet to be set for an inquest to be opened into Johnathan’s death.
