Combs Infants School near Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale Primary School in Furness Vale, Lady Manners School in Bakewell and Westhouses Primary School in Alfreton have been awarded a share of the cash by Derbyshire County Council.

The money will be used for specialist bathroom equipment, physiotherapy facilities and ramps as part of the council’s ongoing work to improve school access for disabled children and adults, wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Deputy Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Caitlin Bisknell, said: “It’s very important that every child is given the best opportunity to achieve their full potential and this is significantly affected by their school environment.

“Approving this money will help to improve the conditions in which children learn and help them feel included by providing better access to areas such as the playground, toilet or canteen.

“We’re doing what we can within a tight budget to make sure that our schools have the standard facilities required to make them fit for purpose and accessible to everyone – not only children but parents, visitors and staff too.”

The new equipment will be installed over the next few months.
