Approval for new store after appeal

The company has been trying to build the store on the site of a former car showroom in the village for more than a year.

In July last year, Chad first reported that the retail giant had made the application to convert the showroom at Larch Farm in the village - despite road safety concerns from residents and local politicians.

The plan was first turned down last November, but the company made a fresh application in March.

The authority once again rejected the application - stating that the company had not done enough to make the carriageway safe at a busy junction at the entrance of the proposed development.

The site is located at the junction of Nottingham Road and Main Road, and highways staff at Nottinghamshire County Council raised concerns over an increase in traffic causing potential accidents.

Ravenshead Parish Council also objected to the plans due to road safety concerns and because they felt that the development would impact on other retail businesses in the village, as well as restricting access to a right of way.

Sainsbury’s has proposed increased safety measures at the site, as well as a restriction on cars attempting to turn right out of the carpark.
